Bat care & Knocking In.
It's a 3 step process in knocking in your new cricket bat to make sure of it's longevity and it will prevent cracking.
Step 1, Prepairing your bat. Oiling
Using raw linseed oil, lightly wipe the exposed willw with oil. Avoid covering the stickers or splice of the bat. Allow the bat to dry. After 24 hours remove any oil that has not been absorbed. Using a very fine sand paper (240+) give the face of the bat a light sanding before reapplying a light coat of oil to the face of the bat only.
Do not over oil, stand in oil or leave the bat in a vertical position after oiling.
Step 2, KNOCKING IN.
Many bats are pre Prepared, however all still require some further knocking in. (Wakefield Cricket Bats will be knocked in if asked to do so when purchased.)
Using a cricket bat mallet, repeatedly strike the bat (starting lightly and gradually increasing force) in all areas across the face of the bat.
Do not hit the edges at right angles or hit the back of the bat.
Knock the bat in for at least two hours.
Step 3. Playing in.
Use theh bat against an old, soft cricket ball. Play in a defensive manner and avoid fast bowling. If the seam of the ball marks the face of the bat, knock the bat in for a further hour.
Top Tip:
Extratec and edge tape will be applied to the bat for ultimate protection.
